September 2023Chip Campbell, Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc.I was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 2016 I moved back to Winston-Salem (from Raleigh) when I started with Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (“OD”). My wife and I are blessed with two teenage daughters. My wife and I went to school together – I followed her starting in 4th grade all the way through college at UNC Chapel Hill. Go Heels! How long have you been a member of TIDA and why is it important to you to be a member? I joined TIDA in 2016 when I started at OD. TIDA is an outstanding resource for the transportation industry and I appreciate how passionate its members are in advocating for the transportation industry in a fair and professional manner. I think the educational component is excellent and evolving through a lot of great efforts. If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why?This is a great question, but I can’t think of any one person. I’m blessed to work at OD where we truly have a Family Culture that fosters internal collaboration throughout the entire company. I’m also grateful to collaborate externally with outside counsel for OD, I’m learning every day. If I could collaborate more with one group it may be plaintiff’s counsel in certain matters, and maybe less formally. Even if that doesn’t lead to a resolution it hopefully narrows the issues and maybe even builds some trust and understanding. To date, what has been the most memorable case you have been involved? Why?As a very young lawyer in Raleigh, I was involved in a pro bono case in which a highly vulnerable and trusting elderly couple were defrauded by a “contractor” for a home renovation. My role was limited but one of the best calls I’ve ever made was to the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office for help after I discovered the abuse at the home. Ultimately through community efforts the home was renovated at no cost to the couple and the wife went on to work with the AG’s office as an “elder fraud warrior” including an incredible video to raise awareness to other potential victims of elder fraud that comes in so many forms. Blog – Elder Fraud Wars What advice would give to your 25-year old self? Not having it all figured out is okay – keep asking questions, listen and stay curious (maybe the same advice I’d give myself today!) What movie made you laugh the hardest? Why?Christmas Vacation, without a doubt for me. It seems to get better every year and a tradition in our family.
