December 2023

Jennifer Crow, Scheer.Law PLLC

I’m an Oregon native that resides in Portland, Oregon with my husband (a criminal defense attorney) and two young kids.  I attended Oregon State University for undergrad, and earned a degree in business finance.  After working for a couple years in corporate finance for Intel, I switched allegiances to the Oregon Ducks for law school.  After graduating in 2010, I worked for a couple of different insurance defense firms before landing at Scheer Law in 2015, where I am now the managing partner.  Outside of work and chasing my toddler, I’m an avid MLS fan and obsessed with my Peloton.

How long have you been a member of TIDA and why is it important to you to be a member?

I’ve been a member of TIDA for probably about five years.  The industry related education that I get from TIDA events is unparallelled.  The people I have met through this organization are experts in their fields and have been great resources for my practice, and I am glad that I can call many of them friends.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why?

Judge Michael Mosman.  I worked for Judge Mosman when I was in law school, and he turned me on to litigation (I thought I was going to be a tax attorney until then, because I love numbers).  I loved that job and enjoyed watching him be a judge, and think it would have been fascinating to collaborate with him on a file (because I think he’s brilliant).

What has been the most memorable case you have been involved? Why?

I did a two week jury trial in December of 2020 that was a trucking case.  The facts itself weren’t the most unique, but what made it memorable was that it was the second virtual trial in the State of Washington.  It was memorable as I had no one to consult with on picking a jury virtually, how to best put on our evidence when I couldn’t read body language of the jurors, etc.  I recall having seen a presentation about two weeks earlier about why defense attorneys should never agree to a virtual trial (we didn’t have a choice) so doing a full blown trial (two weeks on damages only) shortly after made it memorable.  Fortunately, we were happy with the result!

What advice would give to your 25-year old self?

Don’t sweat the small stuff (I also need to give my 40 year old self that advice).  Try not to focus on the things that aren’t going to matter at the end of the day.

What is a fun fact that people probably don't know about you?

After law school and before I had kids, I was an avid adult kickball league player.  We even won a championship (go Bad News Barristers)!
